Laminated safety glass

Kimmelux’s laminated safety glass solutions

Laminated safety glass consists of two or more panes of glass with a PVB interlayer between them, where the glass and plastic film layers are bonded together by lamination. The plastic layer makes laminated glass tough and difficult to penetrate. When subjected to load, laminated glass breaks like ordinary glass, but the fragments remain attached to the film. This reduces the risk of cuts, keeps the glass pane intact and helps prevent anything from passing through the glass.

In laminated safety glass, the panes can be, for example, clear, coloured, etched, silk-screen printed or painted glass, either toughened or non-toughened. The interlayer can be, for example, a clear interlayer, coloured interlayers or an opal interlayer.

Laminated glass is generally used when the glass needs to remain intact and in place when broken, continuing to protect against falling through it or penetration, or when colour shades are required that are not available in body-tinted glass. If the greater strength of toughened glass is also required, toughened laminated safety glass can be selected for the structure. Laminated and toughened laminated glass are used, for example, in balustrades, windows, roof glazing, vehicle cab glass, and so on.
